“We are very fortunate to have found David to teach our 9-year old daughter. He is gentle but firm, and he uses examples and metaphors that are easily understood by kids so that he keeps her engaged and motivated throughout the lesson. He also makes it clear what he expects from practice between the lessons, recognizing good efforts while disapproving inadequate practice in the most encouraging manner so that my daughter fully appreciates the situation but at the same time feels respected (I am sure any parent who has to remind his or her child to practice a musical instrument daily can truly appreciate the value of this kind of teaching). The flute lesson with David is hands-down my daughter’s favorite activity now.”
“I have the luxury of being coached by Mr. David Houston in an ensemble setting. As a teacher, David Houston uses a captivating way to keep you involved and hungry for his knowledge. Using his understanding of the arts and how they are connected, he has a diverse and unique blend of explaining ideas. From phrasing, to colors, to being able to paint a picture with sound, his teaching educates and empowers performers to take risks and break through walls in personal playing. His keen ear allows any player to focus on those specific qualities that takes one’s playing to the next level. As someone who has experienced this first hand, he empowers you to be the performer you want to be!”
